Hardhearted

when i was about ten or so, i went to a catholic mass like i did generally every other sunday or so. we had a guest priest from another parish. he was irish as all hell. i don't remember anything about him nor the homily nor really anything about church at that point in my life. all i remember is the imploring tone he used during the homily when he criticized people who shrugged off giving to the needy: "How can you be so hardhearted?" except it came out more "hahdharhted". it's echoed with me ever since whenever i have to make a conscious decision that's going to hurt someone else.
