Blanket

I've figured out at last, with a sense of bittersweet satisfaction, what my place is in the lives of my loved ones. I'm like a blanket in the summer time. You don't need a blanket, but there's just something comforting about having it there when you expect it, and if you don't have one then you wonder where it went. On the other hand, it can often be cumbersome, stifling, and entrap you.
When I was younger I wanted to be everything from an an author to a river, but I never imagined that I would end up a blanket.
