Outage

There was a power outage on campus.
You could hear the excited talking everywhere.
We invited all our friends over to huddle grinning in the dark. A flashlight set the stage, standing sentry o'er the dark. A twist here, a curve there... Look! A face on the wall! A Unicorn! A Panther! A Spider! The classic bunny! Shadowpuppets! We sing Monty Python snippets, and loll across the couches sighing happy sighs... The lights flicking on elicit groans, rubbing our eyes, we turn them off again and deny. It's funny the power electricity has over us... though all we have to do is...

to turn on that odd energy of fun, that we all forget we have.
