Curtains

Someone once told me that the only reason people need curtains or smoke is to avoid human contact. To keep yourself that one step out of each from your neighbor. To direct conversation in another direction. Why is that I wonder? Why do we feel the need to pull veils around ourselves shielding us from something. From getting too close? But isn't that what we're all looking for really? That one connection that binds and turns us into something other than ourselves. That one person that can break or heal us? We are walking contradictories myself most of all. Holding the world an arms length away and wondering exactly why I feel so lost and left behind.
