I went to Louisville this weekend to see Nicole with Tom. Friday night us three went to the local high school football game to meet up with some friends of Nicole's. I have just recalled that we were also with a Swedish foreign exchange student friend of Nicole's. We got there and the game already had begun. We paid 2 bucks to stand on the track which circled through the crowded football field and bleachers. We stood there for probably 45 minutes and Tom and I made fun of people and cracked jokes and met a dozen of Nicole's friends who she considers just acquaintances. She told us that she has not really made any “real” friends yet. But what I want to say is that when we were standing in this artificially lighted escape from thick unfamiliar darkness, I felt as though the field and all the people and me were in a gully or pit below sea level or the main Louisville land level. I don't know why I felt this way. Tom said he did not feel it. He was like if it was light and I would see higher land and mountains close every side of the parking lot field etc. up besides a little crack would allow a tiny road to rise out of it all. It was strange definitely.
